Box Tops & School Store & Tutoring Services &
Childhood Cancer Awareness
September marks the beginning of our first service project. This month each member will begin their collection of 25 box tops or more. We've all seen these on the products we buy, so let's put them to good use!
Also, NHS members volunteer their time to help run the school store along with PIE (Parents in Education). Please email PIE to schedule your hours today.
Also see our Tutoring Club if you need help in any subject. A NHS member will be available to tutor in your toughest subject.
New this month, we sold ribbons and stickers for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Teachers who contributed to the event got to wear jeans and a yellow/gold shirt in addition to their ribbon on September 30th. Students who donated not only sported their ribbons but were also permitted to wear their hats to school for the duration of the day. The photos below show everyone who participated in the event along with some of the sales of the ribbons.

The event included dinner, followed by music and dancing. The NHS and other student volunteers from Becton had a wonderful time. The festivity was filled with laughter, joy, and great memories.

Tomorrow's Children's Fund
This month NHS collected and donated cartoon band-aids for the Tomorrow's Children's Fund in the Hackensack Children's Hospital. These children are constantly having blood-work done or getting shots, this is just a small way to brighten their long days...with a superhero band-aid or a favorite cartoon character band-aid. If you would like to make any further donations or would like to inquire more information about this organization, please check out their website: http://www.tcfkid.org/. See our photos below!

How does Penny War work? The rules are as follows...
- Students from any grade can put their pennies in their class' container. One point is received for every penny in the container.
- Students may put other coins and paper currency into the containers of OTHER grades. Each silver coin or bill reduces the number of points from that container by the amount of the coin. (e.g. a nickel reduces the points by five, a dime by ten, a dollar by 100, etc...)
- The grade with the most points Wins! (competition ends March 17th)

MAY
Peer Leaders
This month the NHS will be meeting with 8th grade students to discuss the fear of entering high school and suggesting ways to be successful in the classroom as well as ways to study. Our hope is to help our freshman have an easier transition from one school to another and be there to help them in any way we can.
May is also service hour collection month. Remember all service hours are due by the assigned date in May in order to maintain membership.
In honor of Memorial Day, this month we are sponsoring a Jean Day for the whole school and faculty. So please wear jeans to show your appreciation for all the safety our troops provide to us. We would like to recognize our troops and veterans
